Tipping Guidelines

 

The team taking you to the top of Kilimanjaro rely on your gratuity/tips.  We hope that the guide below will assist you in planning for your trip.    Please be advised that these amounts are only a rough estimate.  If you feel that the service provided was exceptional or you had a particularly challenging climb, you may want to tip more.

Lead Guide
US$20 - US$25 per day

 

Assistant Guide(s)
US$15 - US$20 per day

*the number of assistant guides can vary depending on the size of your group*

Chef

US$15 - US$20 per day

​

Porters
US$10 - US$15 per day

*Keep in mind that there are usually several porters supporting each climber*

Below are some examples of what your team might consist of:

​

**For a single person climb, the support team usually consists of: 1 Lead Guide, 1 Chef, and 3 Porters**

**For a 2 up to 4 person climb, the support team usually consists of: 1 Lead Guide, 1 Assistant Guide, 1 Chef, and porters will be 3 x the number of climbers**

**For a 5 person climb, the support team usually consists of: 1 Lead Guide, 2 Assistant Guides, 1 Chef, and porters will be 3 x the number of climbers**
